(16) Death (The open Yale Courses Series) - Shelly Kagan (2012)
This book provides you with deep thinking about death, in terms of its nature, interpretation, argument, theory, immortality, values as well as about suicide. It demonstrates the traditional rational thinking in western philosophy about death. Interestingly, there are good arguments about the existence of soul after death and morality of suicide. It inspires me to rethink the physical and spiritual meanings of death. In particular, I appreciate the last sentence in the book mentioned by author "... invited you to face death without fear and without illusion."
(17) Has China Won - Kishore Mahbubani (2020)
A book written by a Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. The author has extensive experiences and knowledge with 30 years in diplomacy and 15 years in academia. He lived in New York for over 10 years as Singapore's ambassador to the UN. With his understanding to western countries as well as Asian countries, he is qualified to make rational and objective analysis about the current situation of US and China regarding their direct confrontation since 2018. The book provides a balanced view on both giant countries in terms of their political and economical strategies. The insight reflects the wisdom of current diplomatic intelligence, and demonstrates independent thinking against biased western media. Although there has been no conclusion to the question, his insight provides us with more factual understanding.
(18) Has the West Lost it ? - Kishore Mahbubani (2018)
This book was written by Kishore earlier than his "Has China Won?". He is a non-Chinese and he believes in the western democratic system. However, based on his knowledge and extensive political experiences, his conclusive statement at the end of the book mentioned that "The era of Western domination is coming to an end." In his analysis, he summaries that "It is not inevitable that China will lead the world, even though it is inevitable that China will have the world's largest economy." He thinks that the West is possible to avoid China from leading the world in the future if they are able to realize their current mistakenly used strategy and change their course toward Machiavelli's approach.
